simon1979
hi all, just wondering which would be the better all rounder, the .260rem almost seems a better choice, any throughts and input would be great thanks atb simon

Underdog
308 for me, nowt wrong with the 260 though. I loaded 110 vmax for years and it was fine and quite a safe load in the 308, a few clicks up and a 170grn deer bullet was on....simples. U. Bewsher500
Its a reloaders round the 260 plenty people use both for all you ask of it 260's tend to be available in higher end rifle form 308 can be picked up as cheap or as expensive as you want some very slippery 6.5 bullets available 308 has a wider choice i like the idea of the 260 myself but thats about the only diameter I dont have
kent
A mix really, deer, Fox and some long range target. Just wondered what people's peferance was Atb Si .260 gets my vote for fox and deer and tactical type competitive shooting, the biggest issue it faces competitively is even though it offers great ballistics your shooting in open class with it against even better stuff. Good varmint bullets like the 95 v-max are available but not thick on the shelves of the local gunshops, target is likely rare and most will be deer hunting ammo .308 can sit nicely in FTR class so you wont get out calibred by competitors. Its a good deer round (though no better or worse than .260 imo) and although it can be used not ideal for nights out lamping it can be used if the FEO agrees and you have an open cert (most fox only land is passed up to .243 win or .22 cf) Both can shoot to 1000 yards and do so with distinction in the right hands Now two issues to contend with. 1. you will basically have to reload your own if you want one of these guns to do all three tasks (for instance 150 grn deer factory ammo in .308 is real easy to get, varmint rounds rare and quality target not exactly thick on the ground) 2. Proper target (meaning not just casual practice on ranges now and again) need to be heavy, stalking and foxing guns mostly need to be carried more than shot so they need to be light. Optic requirements are another issue again Edited May 24, 2014 by kent
