Back out on the rape field where I was last weekend but this time I set-up a little later. I was set-up by 12:00 with the normal 18 FUD's, two bunkers between me and the magnet and the magnet right the other end of the field. you see the pigeons love the magnet but they also know it means trouble. The are drawn to it but as soon as they get within 50 yards they see what it is a veer off. This set-up I attract the birds from the tall trees and side field to the magnet they then veer off, see my bouncers and come up the field to where I am. Sounds daft I know but it actually works......

I started off well with five in the bag within 30 minutes with only 9 shots. It then get a little manic as they were coming in larger flocks of over 30+ birds but as they flew from the magnet and over the bouncers they seems to suss something was up and veered off again. Single birds and small groups decoyed perfectly. then the wind changed and the birds were coming from behind me, coming over head and full speed heading for the bouncer and then a wide arc back again. Some cracking over head shots but I just could not get into the swing on the left to right and right to left..... I could not work out if I was in front, behind, over the top or under......

Finished at 5pm with 18 picked and 6 lost in the field behind..... I must get a dog as I am loosing so many to the tall crops :-)

I will upload a picture when I can.

As well as the pigeons I saw some lovely hares, muntjac, several roe, a sparrow hawk and kestrel. Cracking day just a bit knackered as the crops are so tall now I have to carry the gear one end of the field to the other and tis a long way...... but worth it.

As for missing the birds..... deco need some more practise so have booked a session with a local coach at the Cambridge Gun Club. I think I know what the issue is but just can't seem to sort it.
