hoggysreels
Are springers suitable with NV? ... lm seriously thinking about getting into the farm yard ratting scene .. lm as green as a very greenish, green grass regards this code of shooting. l feel lm missing a trick on the few permissions lve got. Id like to get into farm yard ratting with an air rifle .. for simplicity and cost, realistically lm thinking sub 12lb'er. At a ball park figure, what would an acceptable entry level NV setup cost, lm trying to estimate the layout to get me up and running. I'd have to add on the cost of a springer, assuming NV is viable with a springer .. any advice appreciated .. cheers
FalconFN
No reason why not. If you can do a bit of DIY you could build a NV rig for under £100 but you will need a parallax adjustable scope to fit it to.
hoggysreels
Cheers FN ... l'll be honest, building one would be above my head mate ... realistically ld probably be best off buying a complete setup, as close to a starter setup as possible. I will be constrained by cost, unfortunately lol ... cheers
NathanM
It's really not that complicated! Still though, if you'd rather have the whole set up, you could buy a PA scope and something like a nitesite ns50? The scope would probably be best part of £100 if you wanted one that was decent but not too pricey, and the ns50 would be about £400 I think. On the other hand, you could get a Yukon Photon which I believe is about £400, and that is a dedicated NV scope, if you only wanted it for ratting? Hope this helps a little, Nathan
hoggysreels
Cheers Nathan ... think my OU might have to be sold first....
NathanM
You could of course try to build your own... If funds are tight, then £150 would give you a pretty decent set up!
hoggysreels
A really dim question, but lve broad shoulders lol ... can springers be quietened down, silencer/moderator etc ... told yea it was a dim question ! .. though if yea dont ask, yea dont find out !! ... cheers
NathanM
Not a dim question at all! Everyone's got to start somewhere! You can add a moderator, which quietens things down at the muzzle end. However, which a springer, most of the noise will probably come from the twang of the spring itself. This can actually be made less noisy as well, if the gun is tuned by an appropriate specialist! GingerCat
Don't forget it's only that loud as your ear is next to it. Stand 10 yards way and you'll be surprised.
hoggysreels
Im thinkng along the lines of a hatsan mod 60s, coupled to a night sight setup .. thats what lm thinking!! ... no great rush, just want a setup that functions and does the job ... cheers
FalconFN
Making a rudimentary NV setup really isn't as hard as it sounds as most of the bits are plug-and-play devices so there is no electrics to speak of. Basically you buy an off-the-shelf camera for about £20, an off-the-shelf 12 V battery for about £20, an off-the-shelf screen for £20 (there's a pattern here!) and plug them together. The only tricky bit is mounting it securely to the scope, but luckily many have done it before so there are £5 plumbing fixtures that will work or more expensive metal jobbies. You also need a pre-made IR torch for about £30 (you will also need batteries and charger for this) and you are done. You can shorten wires and faff with the aesthetics but essentially that's it for a rig that will work out to air rifle ranges and much further if you want it too. hoggysreels
Cheets FalconFN ... that really explains things mate .. reading your write up.has gotmw thinging about looking into attempting to at least source parts ... cheers FN appreciated, as l appreciate others also that have given advice .. Any opinions regards my suggestion regards a "Hatsan mod 60s" ... lm thinking at least its cheap and its new. Not going to get much for what l intend on laying out cash wise. Just want a piece of the ratting action "never tried it yet" but know l will enjoy it .. cheers
