TaxiDriver
What is the purpose of the adustable eyepiece on binoculars ? (Cant be focus the reticule like a scope as there isn't one) Why is it only on one eyepiece and not both eyes ? Surely if its on one eyepiece only, It could be on either your good or bad eye ? EMcC
Not all people have clear vision with both eyes. So the system to set a pair of binoculars up correctly is as follows. Put the Bins to your eyes, close the eye with the adjustable eye piece and keep it closed, now use the centre focus wheel to adjust the bins until you see a clear picture with the open eye. Once you have a clear picture stop and leave it alone. Now close that eye and open the other one, now use the adjustable eye piece until you see a clear picture with that eye, once you have a clear picture with that eye leave the eye piece alone. You now have a pair of binoculars adjusted to both your eyes and only need to use the centre focus wheel. Steel100
As above. You may find it easier to cover the lens with the diopter adjustment wheel (usually, it is the right one), so as to avoid squinting, and then focus with the main wheel until you have a clear image. Then cover the lens without the diopter adjustment and focus using the diopter ring. Then uncover both and use the central adjustment wheel to focus as required. Often a good idea to make a mental note of where you've set the individual eyepiece, in case someone else borrows your 'bins and makes an adjustment.
