Teachers strike

My books are open. We get about £6500 per student per annum. Compare that with the £9000 per TERM that I pay for my son and it is easy to see how private schools are able to afford better facilities and smaller classes (that is £27000 per annum for those who did not achieve at least Grade 5 CSE in maths ;) ).

Gimlet, what you say is true. Those of us who pay tax subsidise those who do not. The same is true of the NHS and the many companies who pay only the minimum wage which then needs to be topped up by state (our) money. People without children pay towards education just as the healthy pay for the NHS and pacifists pay towards defence. The scope for debate is endless!

At my school, we looked at who was striking and decided how many year groups we could manage safely. So far, this has included all exam classes and Sixth Form. We send out a letter informing parents of the situation as soon as we have a clear picture, informing them that we would post any updates on the school's website. This is the best we can do in the circumstances.

I wasn't thinking of the books of those who pay for and use public services or indeed those who staff them. I was thinking of those who control them: the Government. There is no audit of government spending.
