I have shot them, but I am always a bit cautious in case they are someones racing or pet pigeons.

The problem is that they fly in exactly the same wheeling, tight formations as tame birds and its almost impossible to tell them apart.

If I know that someone in the vicinity of a field I am shooting keeps pigeons, I don,t shoot anything that isn,t a woody.

Elsewhere, especially in remote field areas, if they are on the crops, they are fair game.

Fortunately, I have never shot a pigeon with a ring on its leg yet.

Last year I worked for a while in the Port of Pembroke in wales

This port is where the Sunderland flying boats were deployed during the war. The old hangars are still there and have quite a few feral pigeons living in them.

I spent an hour one day with a borrowed air rifle and shot 40.

If anyone lives near Hull. and is interested in air rifle shooting it may be worth paying a visit to the Alexandra dock as there are some large grain warehouses there and thousands of feral pigeons living in them
