Cold blueing

camping stove and a pyrex pan with eBay available Sodium Hydroxide and water

 

 

you can hot caustic blue pretty much any small item this way

add some Sodium Nitrate/Nitrite to get a bit of real blue into the final colour

 

nasty stuff though, eats leather and aluminium

easy enough to control if you pay attention and don't boil over

and make sure you wear face protection and in particular EYE protection as well as gloves. Sodium hydroxide WILL blind you in seconds if it spits.....

Be very very very careful, I black hundreds of guns with a proper industrial six tank system and am currently nursing a serious burn from just a tiny tiny splash and that's wearing full protective gear.

 

If you are stuck simply post them to me and I will black them for you for £20 cheque payable to H4H
