BIG BILL
I have fitted a Titan XS in my HW80 and I cut off about 1 inch of spring with a dremmel multi tool and it kicks out 18ft1b any more than that and you won't be able to cock it. byhsu
Did you do anything else in your HW80? like change any pistons or add PTFE washer for it to produce 18FPE? What caliber is it? Thanks for the info.
byhsu
Big Bill: I forgot to ask you how much FPE was it producing before you tuned it up? Thanks
BIG BILL
BYHSU" My HW80 was kicking out just under 12ft1b be for I fitted the spring I also fitted a PTFE washer, please don't ask what size I got it from the engineers dept at work, I have also had three inches cut off the barrel and it makes the gun so much easyer to handle, and a logun silencer fitted. IT is a .22 and has been a good companion for many a year but I'm ready for a change now, a logun sweet sixteen maybe. you need any more info just ask BIG BILL
gamebag
big bill i hope you put that hw80 on an fac or you have just handed the antis a slightly smoking gun on our sport this is a public fourum that any 1 can read & saying things like that can cause all sorts of hell for us that shoot responsabley
byhsu
Big Bill: That is a 50% increase, WOW!!! I got the Maccari Tarantula XL spring and the Venom Power Pulse Seal and will install it on my HW97, also I will get front and rear mainspring guides made of Delrin, and have the gun deburred and the piston polished. I hope that will at least give me 16 to 17 FPE. As I have heard the HW97K in .22 cal produces around 15 FPE out of the box. Any Idea if doing all of the above will yield me the 17 FPE? BIG BILL
I would just like to say that I own a FAC and it would be stupid to modify your air rifle without one, needless to say the serious trouble you'd be in if asked by the Police to check the power of your rifle. Get an FAC its worth it. Big Bill
byhsu
I already own handguns and I live in the USA, so there is no FAC regulations here for airguns.

BIG BILL
By what do you mean upgraded /more power/better stock /or just serviced to produce its max power.
markgodley
well its its a bsa lightenin i think its 12ft of power and hit birds at 50yards and they just fly away
byhsu
what caliber is your rifle? Using the crossman premiers give you good accuracy and punch to kill crows at 40 to maybe 50 yards. Get an aftermarket spring to tune it up. The Titan XS seems good. I got the Tarantula XL spring for the HW97K from James Maccari in the USA. Also will install a Venom Power Pulse piston seal and will have custom Delrin spring guides installed. The seal is said to increase the velocity of the gun, has to do with the way it was designed by the chaps at Venom.
markgodley
its a .22, where can i buy a titan xs spring?
byhsu
Search for Euroguns.com or Euroguns.co.uk The other website is TR Robb, they are both in UK
bigtoe
Your wasting your time with stiffer springs IMO.I just cut 2inches off an OX spring, coupled it with a PTFE washer and carefully tweaked the preload on the spring to get between 608 and 614fps using 14.4gr pellets that puts me bang on the legal 12lb limit.I also deburred the action and countersunk the transfer port internally to increase the efficiency. With a standard HW spring this gun now makes well over 14Ft/Lbs so you can see just how efficient is has become. Only difference is I now have a gun thats VERY easy to cock and dismantle as there is next to no pressure on the spring when uncocked. Tuning takes time and patience...just fitting a stronger spring is NOT the way to go IMO.It will probably get you on the wrong side of the law also. My next plan is to cut the standard spring down and see if i can get the FPS consistency even better.
markgodley
wat do i do then? just cut the spring ?
bigtoe
Its a little more involved than just cutting the spring etc..it took me 2 days on and off just to get the action deburred etc to how I liked it. Then i cut the spring back to where the deformity in it had gone.My theory was the deformed part of the spring due to being over compressed was doing next to nothing and it proved right. You also have to carefully heat up the end of the spring where you cut it to bend it flat again without damaging the tempering on the rest of the spring which is not easy. Then grind it flat. I replaced the spring guide with a Darlen one and then played about weighting the washer end and preloading the guide end of the spring using a chronoscope till i got the power i wanted.lots of pellets and strip downs. failing that just take your rifle to a specialist to get it tuned
