martindd
Long shot here... Anyone know where has a good stock of various brands of wellies? I'm in Mansfield Notts so anywhere within an hour? Got humungous calves so need to try a few on,had a couple of pair of Muckboots but would like "proper wellies" as I've got on a little rough shoot for the first time. tx4cabbie
I've got 22" calfs(calves?) and tried le Chameau, seeland, etc, none would go round my huge legs, so tried grub stalkers, roll the neoprene top down, pop foot in, roll neoprene back up over calf, job done, plenty of room, comfy, warm as toast, and sole is grippy as any I've tried. Nice colour too, so can wear for posh shoots. If you are a smaller calf, you might get away with aigle or le chameau, but if you spent your formative years shifting heavy stuff, or scrums, you could do worse than a pair of grubs. I'm the same measurement! Really fancied something other than muck/grub but don't think it'll happen, the gumleaf ones sound the nearest.Cheers
HDAV
From 5-25 in the front row..... But I think my calves are 19" aigles fitted the best
tx4cabbie
Saw the gumleaf boots, the ones with the gusset at the back, so it goes round Your calf muscle, looked good, and British made, also spoke to the chap there, helpful, friendly, would have loved to put business their way, but a) they could only guarantee it would fit 19" or less,b ) most blokes with 22" calves are about a foot taller than me, at 5'8" with stumpy legs I worried the gusset would start higher than my muscle does, and c) my wife suggested we pop into eastern sporting as we were passing, and they had grubs, and she was bored of me moaning about not being able to get boots, so bought them there and then. I'm sure the gumleaf are good, but saw some negative reviews, whereas only pluses for grub. Edited September 7, 2014 by tx4cabbie
loriusgarrulus
Anchor Surplus at Ripley and Nottingham usually have a selection of wellies in of different makes. Most are new, unissued. http://www.anchorsupplies.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=wellington

scotty38
Have you tried Neville's in Alfreton? I think they may only have Le Chameau (it's where I got mine) but it's worth a gander if you've never been before anyway. Nice shop and nice people too, I got all my stuff from there before I moved from Mansfield.
