blasterjudd
Hi All Got an old English non ej sxs which is causing me a headache! Whilst pigeon shooting it developed a fault it would not let me open the gun after firing off the first barrel it took about thirty seconds then opens up ok? I'm mystified what this can be as sometimes it's same when firing two barrels but not always?? Help and suggestions greatly received? Hector Vector
There isn't a great deal to go wrong with a non-ejector A & D type action (assuming that's what you have and nothing more complicated). If I were you to start with I'd give it a full strip, clean and inspection - it's not difficult. If nothing is obviously wrong reassemble it and see how it goes. If anything is amiss then you've got to decide how best to fix it bearing in mind the almost certain lack of ready made spares. It might just be mucky, dry and stiff... Guest cookoff013
Check the pins are not broken or sticking after firing.
dougall
are the extractors in unmolested state?it is possible the spent shell case is not seated above the extractor and can get pinched........
clayman
Sounds like one pin is sticking up after release, stopping the gun opening, and as gun cools it releases back on the return spring.. This can be dirt and gunge, take the pins out, clean and re-grease. Replace the return springs while you are about it.Or if the pin is physically damaged they can stick, will need replacing if worn or broken. Gunman
Doubt that a old English SxS will have loose pins . Would suggest examination of the cases as it could be that the chambers are on the tight side especially if it has roll turn over chambers with a short cone and the modern crimp cases are sticking or that the rim depth is shallow so that the cases are expanding and jamming thus making difficult to open . It could also be that the lifts are late ,by that I mean that the hammers are not lifting as soon as the gun is broken so that the pins are dragging in the primers , this could be caused by something as simple as the forend is loose .
