Wildfowler12
Every season we seem to have 1 or 2 marsh trips when everything comes together perfectly. This morning, we enjoyed one of those flights... It was an early start, that saw us arriving at the compound at 04:45. The sun wasn't due up until 06:56, so we had plenty of time to get into position. Despite there being no wind at all we were optimistic for the flight ahead, so we adopted leisurely pace and set off the 3 miles or so to our chosen spot. The morning was cold and crisp, without a cloud in the sky, and soon enough we were treated to some spectacular misty views over the estuary. As dawn broke, I shot a high wigeon, and my mate downstream dropped a mallard over the bank. As he doesn't have a dog, I sent mine over to pick the bird (see below link for vids). After that we were treated to an incredible sunrise. The shooting becomes secondary when the scenery is as good as this! With that, the morning flight was over, but we were staying on for tide. So we moved up a gutter when the water started to run, and settled on the mud. Soon enough, mallard, teal and wigeon began to fill the bag, and my mate managed his first ever pintail! Our personal bag limits are 5 duck each, and with this incredible retrieve from the mutt, we hit our limit and put the guns away for the day. Neither of us could quite believe how far the dog swam, he was in the water for over 4 minutes. Had the tide not been at slack water we'd have lost the duck for sure.
