Guest rimotu66
Are there any classic bikes fans on here? I am looking at buying a 1960's Triumph to do up, I have been looking for a Triton but prices are to high, have been to look at a T100 tonight which has been stored in a shed for at least 20 years. The lady is unsure how much to ask and I do not want to pay to much but I do not want to rip her off either (she has recently lost her husband and it was his bike that he never got around to do it up) Any ideas, advice etc please. Paddy Galore!
definitely a fixer upper, does everything turn as it should? ie wheels and engine etc, as long as nothing is seized then i'd probably offer around the 1500 mark, see how it goeth from there. check out ebay motors for comparable prices and factor in how much your time is worth in fixing it. Guest rimotu66
Thanks Paddy, engine turns over but I will be giving it a full strip, wheels need rims and spokes, its got the standard tank and seat with it but original rev counter, mudguards and more am sure is missing. My time costs nothing but obviously parts do.

amateur
Well, the good news is that it all seems to be there. You won't know whether or not it is going to be a money-pit until you do strip it, and then, as long as you are not fussed about absolute originality, Triumph parts are reasonably available and relatively cheap and the Indians do pretty good copies of Smiths clocks.. However, if you want to restore it to exactly as it left the show-room, that's a different ball-game - and the rivet-counters will still pick you up on some detail. The T100 isn't a bad bike as a basis for something enjoyably rideable. I'd probably go at £1500 too
Guest rimotu66
Thanks again guys, I have decided to buy it. I am not interested in pleasing the 'rivet counters', I want something that I have stripped and rebuilt, using whatever I fancy, have also decided to use the 'café racer' seat and tank, I do fancy upgrading the wheels and suspension but will have to see how funds work out. I will keep you posted
TriBsa
I commend your not wanting to rip off the widow, but I personally wouldn't pay £1500 for that as has previously been suggested. It's an early model with a distributor engine, and as with most Meriden Triumphs they got better (mostly) in later models in terms of engines and frames and ancillary parts. If the tanks fibreglass, it's probably rotten and will need some work especially to make it ethanol proof. The plus points are that it's all there and not too rustly. Unfortunately you don't know the condition of the engine internals even though it turns over. I would be bidding less than a £1000 on that and even doing the work yourself it will be a money pit and not an investment. But, we do these things. Good luck! four-wheel-drive
I think that if it was me I would not pay her to much for it at first if she is a friend then you could get it home and taken apart then you could decide on what work it requires to sort it out if the engine and gearbox is good you could tell her that you you under paid her and give her what you think it is worth. Paddy Galore!
unrestored project bikes are going for around the 2.5k mark, when restored can fetch 5 -6k.
Guest rimotu66
Thanks FWD, deals done for a sub £1000 price, the lady is a friend of a friend but even though I do not know her personally I wanted to give her a fair price for it, now the search begins for some good wheels etc etc etc unrestored project bikes are going for around the 2.5k mark, when restored can fetch 5 -6k. That's what they are advertised for on ebay, do any sell for that? I doubt it.
