Blunderbust
Headed out this morning to go and try and get a Red as I had not had one for a bit. Took a friend with me as the beast down here tend to be big ******* and not so easy to load up in the truck. We had been there from about 0630 and had spotted a couple of Muntjac but left them in the hope that something bigger would come along. Sure enough just as I was about to call it a day I spotted a Spiker out at about 100 meters moving from left to right over our left shoulders. He was obviously a bit nervous and was prancing about as he moved into the open area, but was not looking like he was going to stop and present a decent shot. I lined up the rifle and tracked him and as soon as it looked like he was holding I squeezed the trigger sending a 180 gr Sierra SP from my 300 win mag towards his boiler room. As soon as the shot was taken I quickly reloaded and observed him rush across our front for at least 120 meters where he seemed to drop in a ditch just to our front right. The shot was good but I could not believe how quickly he moved and the distance he had covered after being hit. We recovered him by driving the truck over and tying a tow rope to the beast and dragged him over to where you see him in the pic. During the gralloch we could see that the beast had been hit square on and the left lung and the top of his heart were destroyed. On taking him to the game dealer he was weighed in at 107 kg (clean). Makes it all worth going out in the dreadful weather.
