Today was the first leg of the inaugural Scottish Shires ferreting and was held in sunny and showery Fife, or as it`s known up here "Bandit country" !

The forecast was for rain overnight and boy did it rain, for over 12 hours  still after a cuppa and a brief talk over the rules(there aren`t any) it was off to the burrows. After cresting the first field we were treated to a spectacular view, which we took time to enjoy(and we are too fat and out of breath).

Plan was to get across the hedge and into the lower lying freshly ploughed field beyond and work into the wind. Within half a dozen steps the ferreter was bogged down to his welly tops, but declined to be dug out :good:

Things were not looking too good as the ground and a good few of the burrows were saturated :sly: Half way down the ferret took a good time inspecting a small 5-6 holer with signs of rabbits barking the fallen branches near the holes, but still no dice.

Once we finished the hedge we tried a steeply wooded bank and again there were signs of activity but again the wet conditions were to beat us.

I`m looking forward to next weeks return leg when Fife comes to the Big county.........photos below of the bag
