hoggysreels
Had a very pleasant evening, out shooting "sub 12lb air rifles" in the company of Evo and Golfshot. Light drizzle developed throughout the evening. Shot at two permissions. First one, out of character was quiet. A usually prolific producer of bunnies, though going against the grain this evening, none sighted. We moved onto another permission. In fairness l have to say, Evo and Golfshot elected to spot for my benefit. We all were using night vision, l being very green to this dark art form. They both saw some bunnies and told me a plan to follow. This l adhered to. Eventually getting within a reasonable range. Getting into a prone firing position, bunny sighted, trigger squeezed, bunny hops off ... yep, its far more difficult than l'd expected. That said, l'm really enjoying the learning curve. A big thanks to both lads, they would have and could have had a bunny, if it wasnt for baby sitting me. The night vision kits are a wonderful view into the pitch dark night ... saw at least three Badger's feeding. It just takes time to learn, distances, and elevation etc. Having fitted a Dr Bob's clamp and a bipod, it certainly made things easier. Though l've yet to fit a sling. Something l'm going to get hold of as soon as possible. My shoulder felt like l'd fired off a 100 plus 36g cartridges. A big thanks to Evo & Golfshot for helping me out. Really good company, full of wisdom and knowledge in the black art of "Night shooting"

hoggysreels
Out the other day with Evo & Golfshot ... strolling around the golf course .. saw a few bunnies, but no sooner had we tried to close the range down, and the little $ods had bugg-ered off. They are certainly there in good numbers. Perserverence is the answer, me thinks .. as Roger said, it's just nice to be out .. can't disagree with that!! Having wondered around one side of the course, we slowly walked over to the other side. Evo elected to walk back and pick the slips up ... "we had left them whilst we walked around". Roger happened to mention "he's been gone a good while, hope he's okay" ...after a minute or so l strolled back down to the gates to see Evo walking back as if he was a waiter on the Isle of Man steam packet company. He had three gun slips and was clutching a bunny he had shot. After a quick drink we had a walk around a few holes, seen a few bunnies, similar story... closing the range, and they had gone .. very much enjoyed the whole evening....excellent company .. This afternoon/evening, Evo took me on a jolly .. first perm we shot in day light. I managed to get a Wood pigeon. If we had been on the shotguns, we would have bagged a fair few Rooks/Jackdaws & Woodies .. but this was an airgun days shoot .. I noticed a Fox coming up behind me, slightly to my left side. l watched it follow the hedge line while it was looking for it's evening meal. Purposely stopping at specific positions. Once it had completed its lap, it crossed back over to a position it had spent the most time searching, by now Evo had made his way back towards where l had been shooting. After a couple of minutes it eventually dawned on him, that he was being watched, he smartly broke into a canter, and was away. As the light faded, we decided to move to another of Evo's permissions. I'd previously been invited to this one a couple of times previously by Evo .. we setup and waited, this time using an Evo night vision kit (l having taken delivery of mine a week or two back) ... the detail that comes up on the screen is very impressive. What l like about the setup lv'e got; is that, it far out performs my (12lb) - .22 Walther R8 .. l can see well beyond where l intend on firing a pellet. I like that aspect. I dont want to shoot and only see the target and struggle seeing the back drop. I find it reassuring knowing should l have misjudged a shot, 50 metres further on, l'm aware to what is actually there. Basically l can saftely see the impact zone with a fair illuminated area of a possibly misjudged placed pellet ... plus its great seeing so much of the dark outdoors ... they are a wonderful thing "its all new technology for me" .. learning more each time and enjoying every bit of it. Evo was scanning the hedgeline. Slowly lowered his rifle and noticed a bunny, quite someway off from the hedgeline .. phud ...Rabbit bagged .. it was an impressive shot at range, one well placed pellet did the job, instantaneously. We elected to move onto another of Evo's perms .. Bob likes to courteously inform the landowner prior to shooting the land. The Farmer wasn't at home, so we just had a while looking over the fields .. instantly saw 2-3 rabbits, 75 metres distance .. it looked a very interesting perm ..its got Crow/Pigeon & Bunnies written all over it, but on this occasion, he thought it best seeing as we hadn't annouced ourselves prior "it was spare of the moment, lets see if he's in thing" we didn't want him arriving home to ser two unannounced figures mooching through his fields, plus the rain came on a bit heavier. We decided to drive home .. A thoroughly enjoyable day ... lve been fortunate to have had two really great days shooting with excellent company ... thanks Evo & Golfshot Apologies for grammar and spelling mistakes...posted off mobile (letters are small and my eye sight isn't what it once was) ... atb Edited December 6, 2014 by hoggysreels
evo
great company peter, enjoyed taking ya matey, shame you didn,t get a bunny but at least you got a 40yrd pigeon bud, what made me laugh is the bloody fox got it before you could retrieve it  the last perm we went to we can go to on Tuesday, plenty of rabbits and also plenty of rats to have a go at, but you aint shooting the rats till you get that elusive bunny, you will have plenty of chances to bag a couple, so will the other fella roger lol atb Evo
