.410 Homeloads with a difference.

Recommended Posts

A few issues like which powder to use, which wad and RTO or star crimp.

But I would think it would be possible with H110, imr4227 or SP3 and a mini-bior wad with RTO.

Not very scientific but a few years back I used to used the little h17 wad with I think it was 1gm of SP3 and just filled the 2.1/2 case with shot and RTO I am sure it was about 16gm worked ok.

Ok SUCCESS! Reminder, I like 3" .410 loads but I am running out of 3" cases.

I made up 25 on Friday night.

65mm Cheddite .410 case.

I used 11.5 grains of a Clermont* variant ball powder; a Faye plastic obturator, with a card disc on top, followed by a cut-down cork filler wad. The card on top of the obturator rests on top of the obturator rim; it stops the filler wad sinking into the recess while spinning. I believe it acts like a pneumatic cushion on firing.

Shot load was 15.8 grams of No. 9 finished with a card wad and rolled.

They performed well....so did I! Good breaks.

* Shame about the recent fire in Belgium that has held up production.
