Do They Work?....Yes They Do!

Had to take some photos of a some corvids I've mounted for someone and took them up the farm to do it. The problem was the snow and sun together was had work. I tried many paces but as the time of year sun was low casting shadows. To much light in one place then not enough in another.

After giving up I had a walk round with the dog in the crunchy snow I noticed one or two crows about. Hopping from field to field looking for food. They were covering large areas due to the frozen blanket and struggling to find a meal.

Though I'd try my luck decoying with a mounted rook and crow out in the paddock just to see if birds would land. Walked out and placed them 80 yards near where the sheep had been fed. Nipped back and sat in the straw stack, out came the flask and an apple for the wait.

Had a hand full of rooks hanging about but nothing landing, lots of noise before leaving, a shot gun would have been perfect. Then 15 minutes later a pair of crows flew over circled once and landed, not a sound out of them. They both walked round and all I had to do was wait for a clear shot and squeezed the trigger. It just slumped where it stood and the other took to the sky not to return.

Limited damage from the Winchester subsonic apon my bounty, so another to be immortalise at a later dater.

The answer to my question is, Yes they work well. But taking pictures in the snow is hard work.
