Hunter
Hi! I work as a general metalsmith latley, and have done several jobs on swords/axes for re-enactment.. The best method I have found is to make a neat line with a marker pen on the sid of the sword, then put it into a vice and simply cut down the blade, taking 4-5mm worth off in one go. I have done this on curved blades as well, using a hacksaw, not a grinder! When this is done, put the sword horizontal, blade up in the vice, and use a file to flatten the shapes out, and get it nice and flat. When this is done, use sand paper (wet and dry will do, though a little fine) and polish it. When this is done so no marks are left, get a peice of rag and polish the edge with Autosol or similar metal polish. Remember, you can also put a slight shamfer on either side of the blade using a fine before the finishing steps. Once polished it will look almost sharp becuase of the shine, it really helps with the apearance. If you like I can take a photo some time for you. Good, sharp hacksaw blade is far better to control then a grinder for this job! Hope it works out :(
DirtyDeeds
What sort of sword is it? And what's it made of? I don't know what you use a sword for? Personally, I practice iaido. So this may be of some interest to you... http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/documents/con...307?view=Binary
Tony9r
I personally would use a 3.5" angle grinder with a 60 grit flap disc :(
