leeds chimp
Bought a boat late last year (15ft GRP day boat)Picked up an 4hp outboard last week for a good deal..known the person selling it for 5+ years and he had it from new...used 4-10 times a year max and its in top nick...only problem is that its a long shaft and I measured my transom and meant to have a short shaft (15 inch)Is there anything I need to be made aware of really for this or is it a big no-no ? its just for plodding around on the broads fishing
Grandalf
Be careful when throttling up. Could flip the boat if your weight is at the back. You could build up the transom to compensate. More chance of grounding the prop.
thepasty
with only 4hp and not a fast boat it'll make no difference, as above you'll have to be mind full of the extra length when in shallows. If you was trying to put a short shaft on a long shaft boat you'd have a problem 4hp on a 15ft boat is going to be slooooowwwww

thepasty
aahhh... I only mentioned it as I go boating a fair bit with my brothers, their boat does 7knots max and mine does 30+ so if we go camping or longer fishing trips down the coast I seem to spend forever waiting for them. Penelope
It'll restrict you in the shallow Broadland water. Short shaft all the way.
