Commission Work, Harder Than You Think!

I fellow shooter has asked me to mount a couple of magpies for him and a rook for a display he's doing. I agreed, then 5 mapies and a rook arrived at my house. I never even asked what they were like or condition they were in. The magpies are all juvenile and thought nothing of it, tillI started to skin them. Man they were tricky, the skin was so thin and tight as the bones are growing faster than the skin.

I've only managed two out the five as when mounting another problem appeared. Being in its juvenile plumage the birds feathers are not like an adult. They just look rough and scraggy if that makes sence. The wing and tail feathers have not formed properly yet, still very short. But when mounted and set the bird looks young and how it should. (but it still bugging me)

Now the rook what a joy to do, adult in full winter plumage. I personally don't need to talk about as it speaks for its self. Also I had every intention of giving a rabbit a go. So the two I shot the other night were going under the scapel. Apart from I put them in my unit up the farm and some rodent or two have had a good feast. Totally my fault so I'm on the hunt for another.

Due to my naively in this field another lessen learned......Ask More Questions Before Agreeing To Do Something!

Thanks for reading Andrew
