Scully
hi guys do game keepers on big estates have to ring the police every time they pick there rifles up I can see no reason why they should have to call the police any time they pick up their rifles. Has someone told you they have to?
Blunderbuss
Eh,no. No one does, gamekeeper or not. Some forces ASK you to let them know when you're out but there's no legal obligation to do so. The pros and con's of doing so have been done to death on here in dozens of threads. My own view is that voluntarily letting the police know you are going about your lawful business will eventually lead to it creeping into law. No need. Scully
Ah, with you now. Wasn't sure in what circumstances you were referring to. As Blunderbuss has said, there is no need. Entirely down to the individual but it's not obligatory.
notsosureshot
I have a permission that is near a school. Actually within sight of a school but perhaps 150 yards away. If I shoot there I call both the school and the police. I get an incident number from the police, for reference, in case a complaint is made. There is no legal requirement to do so, but I view it as a courtesy, primarily to the school. I'd like to say that using common sense is enough, but after what I just read about the judgement against young Bill Edwards in his appeal, I'm not sure it is. However, I'd rather notify than not, depending on the situation.
