I have a two yr old lab bitch who is in season, and iam hoping to breed from. My question is when the dog mounts does he have to turn. I have a dog that has mounted my bitch twice but both times did'nt turn. Will this be a sucssesful mating?

I have a 2 year old, and both think, and have been advised this is too young to mate, its like a 14 year old girl getting preggers, prob not the best thing for her, may I ask have you consulted your vet? worth a phone call just to be sure

good luck Pavman

To answer your question it is possible to get a successful breeding without a tye, but only about 1% of the time.

Do you know if the male penetrated her?

What are your reasons for breeding?

Have you bred before?

These questions are not meant to offend, I am just wondering if you have bred before?

That is a valid reason.

However as it is your first time breeding you need to do alot of research before you go ahead. I usually put around 2 years of searching into the male that I want to breed from checking line traits, hereditary defects, temperment, test scores etc. You also need to have a burcellosis test done on your bitch aswell as eye, hip, elbow, (one other one for labs escapes me at the moment) scores to be sure that she is a desireable brood bitch and not a, carrier of herpies. Brucellosis...k9 herpies will kill the puppies and can cause the stud dog to go impotant.

Dont settle for a dog that shows these traits as there are clear ones out there. My Coal dog is 100% clear on every test given. However he will continue to be tested yearly if used for breeding to stay 100% sure .

Hello breeding is a bit work.I breed lab's now & again & if you can a FTCH is a good way forward as these dog's are tryed & tested & info on each is quite easy.Hip score is important & single figuer's best & eye test would be good as people ask now & they are paying quite alot for a pup.I would say 3yrs near or over is ideal age for a litter & fit i aim for i think it give's you time to fill the head with brain's & then suit her to a stud to compliment.
