rabbitstopper
There has always been these regulations threating airgunning for a while maybe 10years plus but nothing has ever been enforced. So personally i dont reckon anything too drastic will be enforced. James
rabbitstopper
It would be a waste of time to bring in airgun licensening, as the whole point is not to allow irresponsible people to commit crimes using airweapons, but as they proberly already have the airguns anyway, some how i dont think they would hand in their guns, also they could easily just buy second hand off others. ernyha
The same thing was said when they first introduced shot gun licences, but they did it anyway and over the years have tightened up the rules on owning one at every excuse they get.You are correct by saying that thousands will go unreported and will remain in unlicenced hands just as shotguns did and still do.But as long as the government is seen to be clamping down even more on guns etc it is always a good vote getter for them. :grumpy:
Cranfield
The licensing of airguns will happen at some time in the near future. The responsible airgun shooter has nothing to fear from legislation. We all thought that the changes in licensing shotguns would be terrible, they weren,t. I am quite happy to have a security cabinet, produce my licence to purchase a gun or cartridges, notify the Police of changes in the circumstances of my licence. None of these things is a burden. Nor will it be for the responsible airgun shooter. Through various amnesties, most of the unlicensed (non criminal) shotguns have been handed in. I don,t think there are lots of them propped up behind kitchen doors, like in the old days. The penalties for possessing an unlicensed shotgun are quite severe. The same thing would happen to airguns. The "advantage" of owning an unlicensed weapon, would be far outweighed by the risk of getting caught and punished. lazza
I am all for licencing air guns,I don't think any resposible person has anything to fear, I know of plenty of air rifles that have been " adjusted" to up the power, & should be on an FAC.
