They are a good gun, but as with all shotguns it is imperative that it fits you.

Try and find one locally you can have a go with and see how it feels and how you feel about it. Unlike a rifle the fit is absolutely critical since you have no sights to line up as such, it needs to be shooting where you are looking or you won't hit anything.

You are more than welcome to come down to the local friendly clay shoot with me (SS will probably be there, see if Pelty wants to come) and everyone there will be more than happy for you to have a few rounds with their guns to see how you get on.

You might luck out and get a cracker which fits you perfectly, but that doesn't normally happen. More usually a few months down the line people end up buying another one which fits them better, or suits their style and physique better.

For example I am big strong lad so I find the 30" barrels on my Beretta help slow my swing down. There are so many variables, if you don't mind buying and changing, so long as you get a good deal, you might not loose too much selling it on again...

The gun I had 6 months ago was a Winchester Select Sporting, I had a 101 Super Grade XTR about 15 years ago and wish I had never sold it.

The are superb guns and well worth what they are asking for it(as long as it is in good nick)

As with any gun though completely useless unless it fits you reasonably well.

i have one the same and i ll never part mine.balance is excellent.its a classic gun.winchester dont make them like this anymore.they were made in the kodensha factory in japan, made that much like a browning only the balance was better.that good they outsold brownings.why do you think browning bought winchester.if this is a good gun and it fits you don t miss out.they have a cult following.im after a 30 inch multichoke to match the one i have.

All looking good so far thanks for your advise. I can't wait for my FAC for the Shotgun. The owner as promised me 100 rounds and the opportunity to try it out. Pin as also invited me over to his shoot. This is whats so great about this Sport /Country everyone is so helpful. If I could buy you all a drink I would thanks again.

Take the fore end off and have a look inside and see how the locking mech is fitted, i looked at a winny select, and the gun smith showed me ...... held in by glue, as in a jet melt glue gun, looked like it had been assembled by a 14 year old on his 1st woodwork class at school.

I really liked the gun,but that put me off (and they were brand new stock!)
