belly47
I've been suffering with a bad back the last couple of days but could not face sitting in all day today so I went for a walk with the shotgun. I was struggling walking on the very muddy fields so headed into a small copse for a sit down on a very convenient tree stump. whilst there I saw some movement in the trees and managed to shoot my first ever squirrel. I've had my shotgun for 18 years but never really tried to get squirrels, I was well pleased. not a big feat really but we always remember the first don't we !!! I managed to split the bladder when skinning it unfortunately so left it for the foxes. I've read they are tougher to skin than rabbit but was surprised how much they want to hold on to their jackets. I also managed a nice pheasant too so despite the bad back I had a good morning. Daveo26
Big old ones are a pig to skin and rough to eat, young ones however are well worth an eat. Good work!

Daveo26
I cut through the bone in the tail at its base, pointy sharp knife to ease the skin off the thighs then lay it on its back stand on the tail and pull up by the legs, Works best on youngsters

I know I could have brought it home to do but generally do as much as I can in the field to avoid being nagged by her indoors! belly47
Cut the skin across the back, screw face up and peel apart, gut after skinned. I gutted it first like I would with a rabbit and it went Pete Tong. will know for next time
