Tell him to unscrew the mag if he's buying it and turn it around, should then take 2 3:1/2 carts, they were crimped for 3 inch as when they came into the country there was no such thing as 3:1/2, I did this to mine and it was fine.

Myself Father Brother and mate bought the Mossberg 835 Ultimag I personally believe it was the Best killing gun I ever have owned.

But in 1999 when we bought the Guns you could buy 3.5" Cartridges in England

Ratty1 you are correct about being able to turn the magazine around but by doing so it will turn the Gun into a " 4 Shot " as you are able to put 3 x 3" Cartridges into the magazine and one in the chamber so making the Gun a FAC rated Shotgun I also had a Mossberg 500 .410 around the same time again you could turn the magazine tube and make it a 4 shot .

As stated this was guns bought 1999/2000 perhaps Ratty1 the Guns you know of differ !!!!!

G I think J will enjoy the Gun I used nothing but the Factory 1/2 choke and it certainly reached out and folded Foreshore Pink's

They were indeed fantastic guns and yes the factory 1/2 was all that was needed all though I always used the full choke, due to the over bored barrel it patterned well with 3:1/2 t shot. I changed the mag on mine and my uncles and neither would take 3 x 3inch in the mag but they would take 3x 2/34 which alot of 3:1/2 mag's would at the time. The two that we owned came over with the first import so might have been crimped differently
