Sorry for lathe reply, only just seen this.

 

To answer your question. No. Varmint barrels are around 22+mm. Head stock bore is 20mm and between centres as about 22"

looks like ill be looking for a colchester student then, I thought boxford did an inch & a quarter spindle hole.

Like you I used a ML7 and wanted a change. I stuck with the myford lathes and got a super 7 a great lathe and you can do screw cutting using the screw cutting gear box. But like people have mentioned it can be a bit dodgy buying second hand, unless you buy a second hand refurbished one from myfords, it might be worth having a look.

Well.

I finished up with a Myford 10, and happy with it.

A 16 mm barrel would not quite go thru the headstock so fitted a boring bar and turned it out a tad and they do now

Only useing for small types of work so it's adequate, have a Denford viceroy at the farm if I require anything larger.
