Oly
Instead of buying a second scope (for my new centerfire) I am considering selling my rimfire's Leupold and buying just one decent scope (not that my Leupold's not decent, it's just that I would need a greater magnification range for the centrefire too! ). It would be my intention to use one excellent scope between both rifles (rather than two OK scopes), with QD rings and bases. All I would have to do is make a note of how much windage and elevation there was between zero's on the two rifles. Any comments/suggestions on this idea?? Browning
In my opinion.....forget it. Leave your Leupold on your rimfire and save up for a decent scope for your centrefire. You will never get the repeat accuracy from detaching a scope. The only way to be totally confident if using this method would be to re-zero every time on paper. Dunkield
It's been asked a hundred times before and the answer is still the same. Or you could spend 300 quid on Apel swing off mounts, that would work, but for that money you could buy another average scope.
Oly
So your saying that I wouldn't get zero again by taking the scope off everytime I put the rifle away using QD rings & bases? So do you guys store your rifles with the scope on?

deershooter
This would not work unless the scope mounts were in the same place on both rifles ! Deershooter

Oly
Are you saying u remove scope to store rifle :yp: Once my scopes r zeroed I don't even BREATH on them I remove them it on my rimfire and can return it without having to zero everytime too...use it competively that way also! :( Unsure on the centrefire as yet. This would not work unless the scope mounts were in the same place on both rifles ! Deershooter That would be the plan...but would it then work ok?? Once it's on I leave it on. Don't you? Means you have to be a lot more careful when storing them, can be a pain if space is limited too...don't want to risk damaging anything! Oly
Have you not got an extra deep cabinet? It's deep, but it's still a pain keeping them away from other guns as they are off balance.
JohnGalway
Once it's zeroed and the combination scope and rifle is shooting accurately leave it well enough alone No harm in putting ideas out there but I think one scope for two rifles would be a nightmare
Dunkield
These are the only ones I know of that sre supposed to work, by all accounts they hold 1/4 moa, after coming off and on again Very well made but very expensive, more than most spend on a scope/rings in the first place. http://www.eaw.de/eaw/index_uk.php/item/

I think quality wise, they are about as good as you will get, but... They cost a fortune and they are a pig to get on and off. I wouldn't even consider removing/replacing the scope without re-zeroing before use.

So do you guys store your rifles with the scope on? Once the scope ison the rifle and zeroed that is it, the scope stays on unless i really really need to take them off. I have a standard cabinet and have two shotguns and FOUR SCOPED RIFLES, and they fit nicely in there. Unless you really have the time to switch scopes and re-zero when you swop them, it's not worth the hassle, not something i would like to do.
