nessy
Hi all, I'm looking to buy my first air rifle (preferably a buget SMK), and would love some advice i've been reading a few reviews off reviewcentre.com; the opinions are very varied but the one thing they agreed on was that SMK's are never live up to their specifications. Does anyone have (or has tried) any of these: SMK 17, D-B4, B3-F and XS-B12? If so could you recommend one to buy for accuracy/reliability/power (in order of importance). I've quite like the looks of the SMK 17 and DB4. CHEERS!!! ps. i'm not yet a serious shooter and won't have time to practise on the more expensive models

(ps. does any one know any good rifle shops on the net? my local's abit pricey) No reccomendations as (no offence meant) the SMK brand is complete **** and offer's no conistentancy in build quality or reliability. If you plan on shooting live quarry or even want a gun for more than 3 months buy a 2nd hand (if your budget is tight) BSA, HWK, Webley, AA, etc. I was going to buy an smk 19 and ended up with my lightning, fair enough cost a bit more but I know in 15 years time if i have kids and get it respringed my nipper can learn on it. Doubt anyone will be giving there kids their SMK's in 15 years time

BSA Shaun
SMK = waste of time I'm afraid. Save harder
monkeyjaimz
Ashamed to say I was conned into spending my hard-earned on an smk x-something or other when I first started Very noisy, very bouncey, and yes very cheaply made (in china I beleive) 6 months after buying it, I cranked the barrel to load a pellet and a scew fell out! As the guys said, if your on a budget or dont know how much time you can dedicate to your shooting, go second-hand, ramsbottoms, airgun bbs or even the buy-sell-swap section of this forum. Please dont waste your time and money with something thats about as much use as a one legged man in an ****-kicking contest p.s you may not be a serious shooter now, but beleive me you will be - invest wisely
Axe
Your not yet a serious shooter I think you mentioned. If you by a cheap and nasty SMK you'll certainly never will be either. You'll get completely fed up. They just dont work. I have one that someone donated as they couldnt get it to shoot and I have thrown in the back of a very deep cupboard, never to see light again. They are just awful!
stevethevanman
I shot my first rabbit with a fenman profile, I would recomend them, later on a guy offered to swp it for his A&A S410 Carbine, I could not believe my luck
naddan28
Just so you are aware, this is probably the ONLY topic that all PW members agree on! So its definately right! Dan
BSA Shaun
Spend the money on a decent second-hand springer of the likes of BSA, AA or Weirauch. Will last forever if its been well maintained.

If you want a spring gun on a bit of a budget then, IMHO, save a bit more and go for- 2nd hand- AA TX200 or HW97k/95k BSA Lightning XL is another option and not too expensive even when new. All are good guns built to work properly and last. ATB Paul
