Description

Good tight no-frills English boxlock. Engraved "Alex Martin. Glasgow Edinburgh Aberdeen and Sterling" Checkering is good, clean bores, a few small dings to woodwork but overall in pretty good condition-dark areas on the woodwork are just shadows due to inept photography. Blueing and metalwork are good. This is a bargain. Doubt you'll find an English gun in this condition at this price so no offers please. Please email(not phone) me with any questions

Doubt if you will find an English Gun anywhere whith the name Alex Martin Edinburgh on it. Although most like it started life in Birmingham.

Huge amount of guns were made in Brum so it's quite possible that this is such a gun - but that doesn't detract from the quality in any way as many "best" London guns started life in the same way....some were even proofed in London in an attempt to add extra provenance.

Yep I have a great respect for Birmingham Guns and Gunmakers. Just added that phrase in case someone pointed to possibility of Brum make.

Hello, thanks for letting me know yes, you're most likely right and its origins were in Brum. I'll try and add this info to the listing. Someone told me that even som Belgian made guns were stamped with the name of British makers / vendors-don't know how true that is though

Yes I have seen a couple of scrappers from Belgium still being used on farms for vermin shooting but they bore the name of a local ironmonger. Think it could have been quite widespread outside bona fide gun dealers in the early 20th century.
