Maybe I'll just ask on here then.

Black powder substitutes...... Do they have to be stored like black powder?

Do I need an explosives license to buy it?

Smooth bore black powder guns are available on a sgc, What does it mean if they are not measured in bore?

If it's an imperial measurement?

Do you shoot shot or solids through them?

1. Yes all shooters powders should be stored in a wooden box like black powder, H&S rules

2 . No you don't need an explosives license to buy it just a lot of money. An explosives license is free.

3. not sure

If you shoot solid ball then it will need to be on FAC conditioned in the same way as slug in a normal shotgun.

Are you absolutely sure that's correct?

Smooth bore muskets can be bought with a shotgun license in .58, as well as lots of other weird sounding Calibres.

Black powder must be stored in a wooden box inside a lockable cabinet

A black powder licence is required from the local constabulary

Pydorex can be bought with a S.G.Certificate

All black powder shotguns have a bore size ,rifles are mostly in calibre such has 45, 50, 577, ect

Solid ball requires a FAC and any large bore can only be shot on a approved range

There are Muzzle Loading branches in Yorkshire go too the MLAGB website for imformation

Smooth bore guns can be bought on a S.G.Certificate

Volume loads are the best for shotguns for a 12 bore 2.3/4 drms blackpowder to 1.1/8 oz of shot

Loading proceedure powder first follow with 2 number 1/8 card wads then shot and finish with 1/16 card wads always make sure that the wads are seated onto the powder and shot

Yes pyrodex is a smokeless powder it is better to store it the same has black powder, if any doubts ask your local constabulary ,personnally I never use it because it is very corrosive.

Thanks fellas.

I want to buy a repo 12 bore sxs, for fun clay shooting and I intent ( if i get one ) to shoot a pheasant one day.

Iv found plans online for a powder storage box,

Proper black powder sounds like the way to go.

Iv seen an Enfield musket listed as a 12 bore, it's cheap and tempting but I doubt it will be of much use to me as a shotgun.
