Pyropredator
I recently bought a used Baikal under and over, as with almost all Baikal’s the stock is rather short and I’m in the market for attaching a larger recoil pad to extend the length of pull. I have a fairly cheap bisley slip on recoil pad but it does not seem to fit the gun very well and hangs oddly, (do I need to remove the existing plastic butt pad first?) or is it worth getting a ‘proper’ pad fitted, how much would this be and what are good options to go for? Cheers, James
Big Al
The fitted pad is definitely the best option if you are going to keep the gun. They look better, absorb recoil better and don't move. You have a wide range of products to choose from and an equally wide price range. You can pick up cheapies for about a tenner or good ones about £30. I like the Kick-Eez pads. Others like the Pachmayer Decelerators. BUT they are all "grind to fit" meaning they are supplied over size and must be shaped. If you are able it it perfectly doable at home. Otherwise you will have to pay someone to do it for you - which ups the price a bit. Edit to say I see kick eez are about £50 on ebay. Oops. It's been a while! mudpatten
If the style of recoil pad that you decide to go with has a tendency to stick on your clothes when mounting the gun, give it a couple of coats of clear nail varnish and it will slide easily into your shoulder.
