DeepThought
Hi I'm going away for a couple of weeks and have agreed to stick my guns in someone else's cabinet while I'm gone for peace of mind as I live in a fairly high crime area. Do I just write it up on his ticket as a loan or do I need to put something on my own to say I'm not in possession of it for the period I'm away too? Also does he need to notify the firearms team of the transfer and do we need to do anything when I take it back? Bit confused by the whole process really, it'd be easier if I just sold them to him and bought them back. Don't want to write too much up on my certificate unnecessarily, there's only half a dozen slots on the thing as it is and I'm not kidding myself into thinking I'm done buying guns. Cheers
robbiep
You both need to notify the firearms dept, for both you lending it to him, and him returning it to you. It will need to be written onto his ticket, and then re-written onto yours when you get it back. You never write anything on your own certificate, apart from when you sign it. Might be easier to drop it off with an RFD, most offer gun storage for a few weeks. If you're a regular customer somewhere then it might even be free. If done that way then no notification to police. DeepThought
Good idea I'll check with the RFD. Out of interest how do you mark the return on the ticket? I see sold, let on hire, given and lent on there but no "returned".
robbiep
You put on his ticket 'lent' He puts on your ticket 'returned from lent' Or at least, that's what I and a friend did some years back.
HDAV
If only for the short term FLO may be happier (remember you have to write to them for thee transactions...) to just make a note on the file....
robbiep
If only for the short term FLO may be happier (remember you have to write to them for thee transactions...) to just make a note on the file.... Doesn't matter what the FEO/FLO says. The law is clear. If broken, even though your mate has SGC, he would be in illegal possession of that shotgun, with all the potential grief that follows. scotslad
Must admit if ur only going on holiday for a few weeks i'd be leaving them in cabinet. But i don't live in a high crime area so possibly ur being sensible My guns sat in cabinet for well over a year while i went travelling, not to mention the 4 years at uni with no other licence holders in house, but that was a few years ago now, things are slightly different now althou laws not actually changed If u really are worried if u only gave ur mate the barrels or butt or foreend would it still have to be entered on his ticket? Because it will be a b*w ache otherwise. Could u not enter guns on both tickets so there would be no need to do the return paperwork
