Telepeage

Just a heads up for anyone planning to travel on the French autoroutes this summer and who have, like me, used the telepeage system - it saves a lot of time at the toll booths.

Sanef, the firm who supplied my windscreen telepeage reader have changed the design in the last year and the old one does not work.

We had this problem as we left Calais, but fortunately there is a Sanef service centre in Rheims who switched it over FOC for the new "bip and go".

The service centre lady had boxes of the cosmos and when I mentioned that the old one did not work just smiled and said "C'est normale"

Anyway the new one has worked ok all the way through France

It's quite expensive unless you live in France and use the Autoroutes every week, it's not good value for money if you're a tourist spending only 2 or 3 weeks in France.

Check out the costs here:

I've noticed that queues form at the "Cash Only" booths, as most Brits seem reluctant to use their credit cards, where there are generally no queues and you can normally sail straight through.

A word of warning if you're planning to use the Tunnel in the near future, there are long delays at weekends, both going out and coming back, expect a delay of 3 hours plus if you're returning to the UK on a Sunday afternoon / evening.

Eurotunnel say it's due to "Increased Security Checks", but that's nonsense, the UK Border Agency are simply checking all passports like they normally do.

The rolling stock is now over 20 years old and poorly maintained, breakdowns are commonplace.

Cat.

Don't I just know it!

The annual charge must be new, I've only paid the very small monthly charge when used, and of course the toll fees, in the past.

The major advantage, as far as I am concerned is the convenience of wafting through the tolls with no hold-up at all

I've literally just renewed mine and you only pay for the months you use it
