30-6
A while ago i decided to buy a nv spotter, the one i was going to buy was a pulsar recon 870 which i think was about £350, this model it seems has been discontinued and the pulsar recon 870R 5x magnification is now available at £500. Yukon have got the Ranger LT 6.5 x 42 for £320. I want a nightmaster 400 IR to aid it, so which of the two above, Pulsar recon 870R OR Yukon LT. Does anybody have any experience of these models, any advice greatly appreciated. I might add it will only be used for rimfire ranges, so doesn't need to see into the next county. Dave-G
5 mag and more is usually way too high a mag for spotting - particularly at rimfire ranges because you lose too much field of view. If its defo a spotting monocular you want try to find a lower mag one IMO. My spotting experience found they are better suited to observation of nocturnal creature behaviour once its been located - but be advised you will likely get a feeling that you have been poked in the eye by the radiation coming from the near eye viewer they use. If I still had to be using near eye viewers I would have given up using night vision because my old eyes get stung too much by them - I'm slightly biased by the way - look at some of my past posts to see I make spotters that use 5" removable monitors that can be dimmed - or placed somewhere out of quarry sight using a fine umbilical cord. I'll not post a link to them in here unless asked.
bornfree
I use a pulsar recon 750 which is x4 mag. The standard IR is rubbish but with a t20 it works very well. I can spot foxes at 3 to 400 yards and see eyeshine much further.
