John_R
I have a Mossberg 500 with both normal and hushed barrels. When I bought it I was told the hush barrel could legally be stored outside the cabinet. I didn't really believe that and have kept it locked away. However the cabinet is crowded and I wonder if I could yield the space pending a longer term solution. Thanks in advance for any help. BrowningB525
Is the barrel listed separately on your licence?
TONY R
I would have thought if its a barrel it will have to be secured like any other barrel.
Guest stevo
if its a component part it should be locked away
littlerob
I was told by a feo at the time for short like over night or weekend trips I could store a whole gun as long as the gun was broke down and the bits where hide about
John_R
The barrel is not listed separately but I do think it should stay locked. I actually purchased it from a policeman and it was he who said it could live outside the cabinet. Not a firearms officer though. I'll probably get a small second cabinet. John_R
It's just a metal pipe. Albeit a pressure bearing one.
littlerob
So is a gas pipe and a water pipe they both hold pressure no need for a safe for them

Rimfireboy
A barrel of a section 2 shotgun on its own isn't a firearm unlike a chambered rifled barrel.
