Obviously we don't know your shooting history, experience etc......

But I believe you are just starting in wildfowling?? If so don't get hung up on super doper chokes...... Yes they can improve patterns and and 'sometimes' increase range thus. But they will not make you a better shot or more successful, they will make your pattern tighter or more even generally( why most people go for). Duck shooting can often take place on creeks at close to moderate range, whilst geese are sometimes flighting at maximum range. Apply fieldcraft and knowledge ... The correct cartridge(v.important)and that will fill the bag. Aftermarket chokes do give myself and other fowlers an edge, hence their use, but it's a small part of the package!

yes we are both newbies to wildfowling.I have shot a few ponds for duck befor. But have been shooting 5 years.but mainly pigeon rabbits and pheasants. This season will be our first ever on the forshore and real wildfowling experience but we all got to start somewhere. Cartridges wise a range of steel 36g of 3s and 1s and some 38g 2s and some 42g of 1s

Cartridges sound good, tell your friend to stick to half, modified choke (3 notches) for now, and keep ranges sensible, as Boyd said on another thread birds usually look closer on the marsh with few reference points etc.... If you get bitten by the bug and want to improve your guns performance then would be the time to try chokes and cartridges. Just my opinion. Good luck

I was lucky I bought a gun cam with a full set of stainless steel extended chokes and a SRM terror choke. But my mate Dan has only got a bettinsoli and just got beretta 690 I said don't take that berreta to the foreshore as rust and wet

Tell him to blather his gun in oil and give it a good wipe down afterwards (back at the car not when he gets home) and it should be fine. Nothing wrong with taking an oily rag onto the forshore to wipe off any mud or salt water if you are out for an extended time.

like others have said, do not get hung up on after market chockes, just concentrate on learning the marsh and shooting straight. When I first started wildfowling I would only go with 42 gram mini magnum loads of lead 4's, because that is what I read wildfowlers used, until one day all I could obtain was standard game load 32 grm 5's. I even considered not going for flight! But I did and had my best bag of duck up to that time.
