wildfowler.250
Just looking for some general advice/opinions really. I have a friend located in Lockerbie and one that's got a place in Dumfries and Galloway. I half thought as a one off, I could maybe attempt to shoot the solway for one or two days using their place as a base. My real questions are: how safe is the solway to shoot? I imagine it's a case of going out on the mud but dont want to get cut off by a tide coming round the back of me ect. Are there any known car parks? In truth I wouldn't care if I didn't get anything. I'm not new to fowling. Would just be keen to take advantage of being able to go out somewhere new; hopefully without dying! Many thanks! grahamch
Google Scottish Solway wilfowlers, theres always Caerlaverock permit scheme or wigtown or creetown if you want to go a bit further. Also down load the BASC permit guidebook
wildfowler.250
Thanks for the reply! More than happy to pay for a permit. Assumed the shooting scotland side was free but as said, don't mind paying if there's clubs like solway wildfowlers ect
widgeon man
It is free but under permit 👍 It is free but under permit 👍
wildfowler.250
Cheers guys. Are there any permits that you would particularly recommend getting? Realistically the Scottish side would be as far as I would go. As I say, if I can get out on the mud and see the place I'll be happy. If I get near a duck that's a bonus. Not interested in blasting the place as some visitors tend to do.

shakin stevens
Wigtown isn't a bad start for a newbie to the area , you get a good info pack with your permit , it's £25 for i think 4 weeks in the season of your choice. Gets a bit busy mind these days for me, but it's still OK.
wildfowler.250
Thanks very much, gives me plenty to work with! (Never been a fan of busy but as a one off I could manage..)
ratty1
Not much in the way of mud, plenty of sand though.
ratty1
I think the permits are penny's anyway( £6-£10), worth getting in touch with Scottish solway wildfowlers, you can then pick up a permit from there presidents house which is in a nearby village, gives you plenty of marsh to play with.
