Keith
Hi - I'm looking for #### opportunities around north-west Middlesex, south-west Herts or south Bucks. Anyone know of pigeo shooting clubs or friendly farmers? I've got my own camo and a few decoys and a very nice Miroku 3800 12g, but nowhere to shoot. ta Keith
pin
Welcome to the site! You'd be lucky to get someone willing to just give you some shooting, normally you'd be wanting to get out there and knock on some doors. There is a raft of great info in the "gaining shooting permission" section, well worth an hour of your time to read through it. If you want to get right in there, have a look at http://www.pigeonshooter.com/ - The site sponsors pigeon shooting agency - give them a call and they'll look after you for a days decoying. Best of luck finding something, only way is get out there and ask some farmers!

Keith
Oops? Very oops! started to write a reply and my PC froze for some reason. Thanks for the advice. Will work my way through the permission section and have put the Thames Valley shoot on my favourites. K
Highlander
unlikely anyone on here is gonna point you in the direction of 'friendly farmers' always assuming there is such a breed and to say you've nowhere to shoot doesn't ring true, there's plenty of places to shoot only you might have to pay. Talk to Will B on here as he's (almost) local to you. Sorry guy/s to hit hard here but I'm sick and tired of these posts...first time on the forum and it's gimme, gimme, gimme like some Romainian immigrant. There's plenty of places to shoot if you can be bothered to get off your **** and find 'em and even then if you can't or (genuinely) don't have the time then be prepared to pay for your sport!. Who ****** in your porridge? I thought the idea of the forum was self-help and advice. I'm new to pigeon shooting, I'm not looking for something for nothing. I've already booked to pay for a shooting trip in Scotland for October and am prepared to pay. But I also want to find what lots of pigeon shooters have found - farmland near to where they live that they an shoot over. Not an unreasonable request. I'm not taking anything from you, so why the carping, bleating and offensive attitude? I can be bothered to get off my ****, so don't judge until you know more. Keith
Ooops looks like I touched a sore spot :( Lighten up buddy you never know we might meet one day I am light mate - you're the one who kicked it all off with the Romanian refugee ****. everyone has to start somewhere but you don't seem interested in being helpful or even polite. I've seen some of your other posts and I think you need to get a life instead of - what was it in your miserable riposte to someone who'd got into double figures - sitting in your orifice all day. pretty apt I'd say. pin
Now now ladies Kieth: You won't know this but this forum gets a lot of people joining who don't realise how hard it is to get land to shoot over. I personally know good guys on here who have been trying for YEARS, actual years, to get some shooting land. Not only that lads have to work extremely hard to keep their shooting, tipping the farmer at xmas and doing odd jobs for him - some lads with trades do free work for their farmers to keep them sweet and secure their shooting. We all run the risk of someone taking our shooting off us, by rocking up and offering to pay or simply just muscling in on the action. Nobody is going to just go "oh yeah go here and ask for this guy" to some stranger off the net - won't happen. It is hard to get, the only way you get it is asking farmers and landowners. A lot of the old hands on here get narked when new people come in and just ask for land. As I said to you in my reply there are loads of good tips in the "gaining shooting permission" section - it is also full of threads like this one. I try to stay helpful if I can but sometimes it annoys me so much I end up replying like highlander, I don't blame him and to be honest once you've read a few pages in the getting permission section you will probably understand why it is so frustrating. Your not far from me Kieth, I sometimes get down the A1 though I don't care for it as a ground the couple who run it are lovely people and the food is excellent. Will try and arrange a few clays down there with you if you are up for it?
Keith
Hi Pin, quite see you're point. I was a bit taken by surprise by the vehemence of the reply and responded with both barrels. I've followed up your suggestions and have got details of Thames Valley pigeon shooting and Anglia, which I'll try. I've also messaged both BASC and NFU in Herts and Bucks to see if I can trace a farmer reasonably close to where I am. I shoot woodies with an air gun in my long back garden, but I think decoying on a farm would be better and mroe relialbe sport. Be good to shoot with you at A1. I've noticed a couple of posts with people saying it is quite a hard ground and you say you don't like it much. As I've only used a few I'm not really sure how to rate it. They have a couple of traps that I really like - though some that as a relative beginner I find really difficult. Have had some really good tuition from Wayne at A1, though, and my shooting is improving. Where are you based and where do you normally shoot? if you're ever up at A1 on a Saturday or Sunday morning I'm usually there one of the days - short, loosehead prop shaped with a beard and with my one armed bandit wife (she broke her shoulder a week after buying a very nice, light Beratta 12g game gun for clay shooting and hasn't driven, shot or basically been able to use her right arm shot since March). all the best Keith

Dr W
I think PIN handled this response well. I can understand people's frustrations but flying off the handle at someone new to ths site and doesn't know the background isn't going to encourage people to stay and add value to the site. People new to it don't realise how difficult it is. I hope when I'm a good enough shot (still practising) I might be able to tag along with someone to help out for a day and learn the ropes, I'm not going to nick their land but having never done it before I don't know what's what and all the experience I can gain is useful. I'm not going to start offering to pay for it and that is damaging to everyone and the job (not sport) of pigeon popping.

Of course you have to pay. I also have nowhere of my own to shoot and I'm a beginner pigeon shooter, so much so that I have never been pigeon shooting(this will change tomorrow). I have booked a days decoying for £60 and the guide says he is happy to teach me how to shoot, as a shooting lesson is between £50-£70 an hour I think this is a great deal. Best of luck Moses
