Blackpowder
Sleeving the barrels are chopped off just forward of the chambers and new tubes welded on. Lining the old(often damascus barrels) are machined out and lined with steel tubes. This later process has had problems with the glue used to bond the old barrels to the liners also , and I do not know this for sure, it was reputed to spoil the balance of a gun making it muzzle heavy.
