panoma1
Barrel wall thicknesses? Just to clarify......are you saying they now measure 15 thou in the Right barrel and 25 thou in the left? What was the gun originally proofed at please? byjovecarruthers
I don't know what the measurements are or where. I just know the gun was reproofed by the gunsmiths I bought it from as it had had some pitting honed out of the barrels. Just to clarify......are you saying they now measure 15 thou in the Right barrel and 25 thou in the left? byjovecarruthers
There was a scrap of paper came with the gun that said .735 ; regardless it's been through the proof house and has been given the thumbs up!
panoma1
.729 was the generally accepted English bore size, could 15 - 25 thou refer to the chokes? Ah! Choke? That could explain it? But @ .729 (nom 12 bore) polished out by 6 thou to .735 why would someone submit the gun for reproof? It certainly would not require it! Or was it maybe originally proofed at 13 bore (.710) or 13/1 (.719) This would certainly indicate more metal having been removed from the bores, which would affect the barrel wall thicknesses! And consequently would require a re proof! Looks a nice gun but I'm confused by the figures! Just seeking clarification!
bruno22rf
I'm guessing that both bores now measure .735 which is what they were proofed at after polishing - this gives you a wear limit of .745 before they will need proofing again (which is likely to be never if she is looked after correctly) - 15 thou would be the right hand choke and 25 thou the left I would imagine ( 15 thou is between 1/4 and 1/2 choke whereas 25 thou is between 1/2 and 3/4.)
