unico1
Probably been answered lots before, got a nice mk38 grade 5, nice wood just could do with bit of oil to bring out deep lustre of grain. Don't want a ronseal finish though. Thanks in advance.
winnie&bezza
To bring out the true grain you would need to strip it right back to bare wood and re-finish as adding an oil over the top of existing wouldn't do much.
unico1
Ok thanks for that, may just leave it then, don't want to go to that bother. Cheers
Wingman
A little bit of boiled linseed oil applied with your fingertips might help. Done this on an oil finished stock and it comes up nicely, but the key is be sparing and rub it in so it starts to get warm...
winnie&bezza
Could always rub it with some very fine wire wool first to cut back the existing finish and then do as wingman says. My first suggestion would bring out the true beauty of the grain. I re-finished the stock on my 20b macnab o/u this year and even though people said it had nice wood, when I stripped it right down to bare timber and used trade secrets stock oil for the finish it transformed it. It created a superior look and finish to what is had.
welshwarrior
The finish on the gun now is workman like it's hard wearing and shows a bit of grain and was quick to put on. You can improve it by lightly cutting back and topping up with a good stock oil. However to really bring it out start from a stripper stock will highlight all the grain and interest in the wood I'll be doing my guns same as yours in February they look nice but could be so much nicer.
