Blundy
Going to be getting dog in next few weeks so looking to get books or dvds to guide through the training process .
UKPoacher
Plenty of time for that. You only want to be doing a bit of leash training to stop any pulling, and basic recall in the first 6 months or so. If you do got for a non gun dog breed then make the play a find and fetch activity. But nothing too demanding for the first few months. WelshAndy
Labrador all the way you'll find you can't go wrong with the drakeshead dvd's mate. Just bombard her with loads of lab puppy pics. Far nicer dog around kids too.

So I'm creeping like mad will let u know who wins There is little difference on a day to day basis between owning collies and springers in my experience. They both have similar needs and wants and are roughly the same size and weight. A lab is a different animal in many ways and not something I've ever taken to. Each to their own. For what you want;- picking up from a hide or flighting / roost shooting a collie or springer would be fine.
