pigeonblasterian
I went out for the last roost shoot of this month hoping for a better turnout than previous Fridays. It started off promising with a few shots going off around me in other woods. It soon went quiet though and after 1730 till 1810 i only heard a couple of shots and they were from far away.Folks must have packed up early and gone for tea. With not many pigeons coming to the wood i was in i only managed 5 pigeons.I took the pigeon crops off which were full of rape before the photo as i was going to feed them to the ferrets. Fuddster
i managed 6 in the YO post code-crops had maize/clover/corn from feeders and holly berries. very little osr which bore out my recc'ing three farms with few birds feeding on the rape. yet to see any real osr hard hit by the birds. will be out again tomorrow roosting. on a side note....i rang soanes at driffield and they said they weren't taking wp's at the moment-will call again on monday to clarify if its to do with bird flu. f. aga man
You managed two more than I shot tonight pb. We saw very few birds tonight. Fuddster soanes is still taking pigeons but not at there usual site. A farm a few miles up the north dalton road is the drop off point and it is bird flue restrictions. I took some pigeons yesterday. Fuddster
cheers Aga-i used to take wp's to soanes but at 20-25 per bird it was hardly worth the 50 mile round trip.last few years i've been supplying hawk breeders with steel shot birds at 50p per bird. i have a permission up the A1 and Yorkshire game quoted 40-45p a bird fresh depending on grading. what are soanes paying for birds? my regular hawk breeder has suspended buying my wp's on the grounds of flu. i dont shoot for profit but it all helps with the ever increasing cost of shells. cheers f. aga man
Absoloutely fuddster, soanes have been paying me 30 pence for fresh and 20 for frozen up until a month or two back. i assume they are still at that price but didn't get to speak to anyone yesterday, just found a notice on the door and directions of where to go with the birds. I always get paid eventually!
