ElvisThePelvis
I have decided on this for my Hmr but now I'm a bit stumped. Today i looked at composite in sporter, wood in sporter and laminate in varmint. I liked the weight of the composite (and the storage of second mag) but the fore end felt thin, I liked the feel of the laminate in varmint but it was noticeably heavier. I didn't s End enough time looking at wood sporter on reflection, but it wasn't as pretty as laminate .... (easily distracted) This gun will be carried on a sling and often for some distance but I like the stability of the bulkier laminate and varmint. Does anyone know if the composite varmint is bulkier in the foreend? If not, any suggestions as to which model to go for? Please don't suggest alternative rifles. bear-uk
Laminate .22 for me. Nice looking and feels nice and solid. I put some 3M Helicopter tape on to protect it a bit.

If have shovel like hands so the sporter feels weird I don't know as i only looked at the sporters. I went for the composite for 3 reasons, 1 it was lighter, 2 the storage for the second mag and 3 its better at taking the knocks and scrapes of use in a vehicle. Same view as me, it's just the thin forend putting me off.
paulnix
I handled the composite and didn't like it, it felt like a toy, I went for the walnut target varmint and love it, I am not a fan of laminate for looks but that looks same build as the one I have. I carry my t-bolt fair distances with a bi-pod, lamp and NV unit on it isn't heavy at all, very well balanced, only thing I would change would be the second mag storage but then the mag fits easily into a pocket. The composite target varmint looks to have the same tapered forend as the sporter.

Thanks for this, I guess I will end up with the walnut and sporter in 16.5, gunshop not especially helpful so far so your input is really great, thanks!
