landofficer
Hi All Just after a bit of info about HP steel. I would like to shoot some 3'' steel though my 20b silver pig iv, I don't have any steel proof marking stamps on the gun so what type of load is an HP. The type of load I would like to shoot is a 27gram shot size 5 that will be in a 3'' case. I have been using some 24gram steel loads without knowing that it doesn't have any proof marks so should I not be using these. Cheers Will

Guest cookoff013
does the gun have a number that is associated with its proofing level? i think the proofing level would be a 1370 i think, so it should have this as a stamp or the fleur de lyse stamp marking. so you`d need to investigate what its proofed to. so here is the thing, 2 guns are made, one is sent to eurpe and one america, they have to be proofed and stamped, both have different levels of proof one HP, the other standard saami. it just so happens saami MAP is between the 2 different european proofings. Does that make them less suited to HP ammunition? just take your gun apart, read what it says, if you dont understand, take a photo or type the information here, and we can and will help. landofficer
Been looking at the proof marks and found the meaning on the net. There is a stamp With the what looks like 2 stars side by side with PSF below and means either proof for guns with smokeless powder or finished proof for firearms ready for sale. Then one stamped on each barrel and one under the bottom chamber that means provisional proof for all guns. There is a stamp that could read Gam.76 Also one that reads KG1080 Can't get a shot with the camera unfortunately but thanks for your help
motty
Your gun would fly through the steel proof test. Just use it and don't worry.
