Hope everyone is having a good year so far, managed to sneak away for my first (of few!) days decoying this summer before pheasant poults take up my spare time! We actually went to look at a field of barley stubble, which had a few birds but the size of it made decoying tricky. Luckily I decided on a drive round the farm before committing to it, a small L-shaped field of rape around the farm buildings had also been cut and was covered in pigeons, with a steady trickle joining.

After a quick phone call to check shooting near the farmhouse was ok on a Sunday afternoon, we got a hide up between a plough and an old sprayer, with 15 decoys and a flapper out in front. The next 3.5 hours saw a very regular supply of pigeons coming from 3 flightlines, and after a quick adjustment for a change of wind direction we managed a respectable bag of 75 picked, with a few wobbling off to an onion field over the boundary. To be fair, out shooting skill was "variable" and the "miss" pile of empties didn't quite match the "hit" pile!

Hit a few, miss a few! No problem with a bag of 75!!

Well done.
