Cornish lad Posted September 2, 2017 Report Share Posted September 2, 2017 Hi guys just wondering if any of you shoot techs might know what the protein level of wheat should be yo feed to pheasants , I can remember in one of the shooting mags the chap saying he had a very poor batch of wheat and changed it for some with a higher protein level anybody any idea thanks in advance cheers Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Stonepark Posted September 2, 2017 Report Share Posted September 2, 2017 (edited) Ideally it should be hard wheat (called strong flour once ground) at about 13% crude protein and nor soft or feed wheat at 10% crude protein (plain flour) but most folks just get the cheapest which is invariably soft. As said above it sounds like a group 1 milling wheat is what you need to feed pheasants with , to make milling grade it has to be 13% protein .
