nabbers
Sanded down an AYA stock and steamed out some dents. Tried some oil that I used in my Nikko stock 25 years ago...it looked fantastic on that. Initially coming out a bit pale on the AYA, do I darken the walnut with stain then oil, or are their coloured stock oils? Any tips welcome. figgy
Stain the stock first before applying oil. Red alkanet root stain brings out the grain and darkens the wood.
welshwarrior
Both depending on the colour change needed a sprite based stain can be used to change the base colour lighter. Alkenet root oil will change (darken and redden) the colour more gradually but also highlight the interest in the grain. Every piece of wood needs assessing on its own merits.
