Yorkshire Pudding
I have just got broadband installed , and it seems to be slower than my old dial up connection . I have phoned my isp (orange) and informed them . The tech help bloke told me that it could take up to 10 days to start working properly . Is this correct , or am i getting "binned" off . all the best yis yp
pin
Yep, it will take time to settle down, I am assuming you have a "up to 8mb" service?

pin
Probably not much point doing this yet given its just been installed.. However click here and follow the instructions. All it does is test the speed of the line, PM me the results at the end or post them here. It's not a fast site, it will seem like its doing nowt for ages, just let it go
Yorkshire Pudding
Been on the thinkbroadband speed tester and here are the results :- Date 19/06/07 15:00:53 Speed Down 125.56 Kbps ( 0.1 Mbps ) Speed Up 376.32 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps ) Port 8095 Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk thanks a lot pin
pin
That one is ok the BT one shows the important bit, the "IP Profile" Here's a set of results for my home line :- IP profile for your line is - 4500 kbps DSL connection rate: 832 kbps(UP-STREAM) 5536 kbps(DOWN-STREAM) Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4257 kbps The IP profile bit is what is being worked out over the next 10 days, your line will be up and down like a bloke with a dose of salts. After that time it will work out the best stable speed your line can do, and that will be reflected in the "IP Profle" number. At the moment I would guess your IP profile is very low, it should increase. The figures you posted are very very low, not quite modem speeds but nearly
lurcherboy
Virgin, based in London, have detected northern device's and you are paying the penalty. When you come down to England you will see how it's supposed to work LB
Cranfield
YP, best of luck with Orange stabilising your speed over the next 10 days, its unlikely to happen. I moved from 2 Mbps, to their "up to 8 Mbps" at no extra charge and then suffered weeks of disconnections at busy Internet times (5pm to 9pm), sometimes 10 an evening. I eventually had to tell them to fix me back on 2Mbps, to give me a stable connection. They even had to dream up a 2.2Mbps, unlimited download tariff for me. I now have no disconnections and 2Mbps is fast enough for most users. I hope you have better luck.
